Can I get a ride to Nelson Airport?
Yes. Drivers post trips to and from Nelson Airport, including from Golden Bay, Motueka and Māpua. Search for Nelson Airport in the app to see who's going your way, or post your own trip.
Can I carpool to the Picton ferry?
Pooly connects people travelling between Nelson and Picton, where the Interislander and Bluebridge ferries cross to Wellington. Search for Picton in the app to find a ride, or post your trip if you're driving over with spare seats.
Is Pooly an alternative to the intercity bus?
Pooly complements buses and shuttles. It's most useful for the routes and times scheduled intercity services don't cover, like Golden Bay, early airport runs and weekend trips.
Is Pooly good for backpackers and travellers?
Yes. Pooly is a friendly, low-cost way for backpackers and visitors to get around the South Island and beyond, travelling with locals who know the area. It's also safer and more predictable than hitchhiking.
How is the price set?
Drivers set a price per seat to share fuel and vehicle running costs. You see the price before you request or book a seat.
Is Pooly licensed?
Yes. Pooly holds a small passenger service licence from NZ Transport Agency Waka Kotahi (NZTA).

Pooly started in Nelson-Tasman but members share rides between Nelson, Golden Bay, Tākaka, Motueka, Picton, Blenheim, Christchurch, Westport, Greymouth, Wānaka, Queenstown and more. Heading somewhere else? Post the trip yourself.
